2020 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On Geometric Works
Collage technique allows for a spontaneous collaboration between cut out shapes and painted color grounds, letting us
discover intricate relationships within a composition. Unexpected combinations reveal our own emotional feelings. Charged
atmospheres emerge from strong visual dichotomies while congruent color schemes create harmony and calmness.
Juxtaposing volumetric shapes with color, shape, form and pattern addresses our interests in spatial depth and optical
illusion. These artworks prompt the viewer to enter and read the movement through each composition so that they too can
experience a unique optical and emotional journey.
Understanding concepts about volumetric form, shape, depth and space is an acquired mental ability derived from our
body's physical existence in a three dimensional environment. Initially infants perceive a flattened world full of contrasting
shapes, values and color. Slowly our mind learns to discern the difference between objects and space and the ability to see
and understand compositional movement in an artwork.
