2020 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On The Blue King Torrent Series
Militaristic societies have dominated the human arena since the dawn of mankind but there are other options for success.
Our face card character artworks are visual statements concerning the relationship of card playing games as mirrors into
human dominance behaviors and additional political methods used for building civilizations. In the struggle for survival, card
games reflect social manoeuvrings and political strategies used for the acquisition and control of vital resources. Our kings
brandish weapons and stances related to human attitudes and our need to establish hierarchies.
Each face card has characteristics in weaponry and clothing that signify their political system. The spade king, considered
the dominant suit in many card games like poker and spades, represents a militaristic system. He presents his sword frontal
and ready for battle. On the other hand, the heart king's weapon is held behind the head with a stance revealing negotiation
first and war as a last resort. Heart symbols represent brotherly love and this reveals compassion and understanding as an
optional political tactic.
The club suit symbol, reminiscent of a tree, is associated with land resources and promotes agricultural wealth, hunting and
group activity for survival. We have all heard the saying, "There is strength in numbers". Today a club defines a community
type. One joins a club to associate with people of like minds, passions and interests for interacting and sharing knowledge.
Finally, the diamond is seen as a symbol that represents great material wealth from rare gem stones, precious metals or
other material goods or services. Silicon Valley is a perfect example of this type of power. This strategy for power includes
items of high value based on demand and sometimes inflated by controlled scarcity. Ancient cultures grew in strength from
trading goods and commodities to enhance their existence, build power and wealth, and establish dominance. Historical
examples that built empires include: salt, silk, iron and tulip bulbs.
Our swirling turbulent waters hint at the mental turmoil experienced by leaders as they strategize for dominance and control
of world markets. Water engages discourse concerning human success. Usage of naval strength and geographic assets that
include rivers, lakes and oceans are brought to mind. Waterways support trade, generate electricity, supply drinking water,
provide geographic strongholds and are central to agriculture. Today water resources are changing rapidly due to climate
change. Water is vital to the growth and sustainability of any civilization. With that said, we encourage you to consider how our
current political and social systems will emerge and sustain our existence on this amazing blue planet.
