Drum Works
/
One aspect of the Drum pieces is that they are containers that reverberate with the sound of the drummer’s soul. The
physical essence of sound and how we perceive it provides an insightful window into ourselves. These works tap into the
memories, instances or events brought to mind when we open our emotional and spiritual sides to the rhythmic beat of a
drum.
/
Our heart beats within us in a distinct pattern long before we leave our mother’s womb and enter the world as an infant. We
carry that rhythmic sound with us till our last earthly breath. Delighting in the pattern of sound, humanity engages in musical
creation with great zest. Sound is possibly the last sense to register in our brains when our physical being ceases to exist.
Physical theories state that all sound waves produced continue to travel to the farthest reaches of the universe. So too does
the beat of our human hearts and the resonance that they sound for our eternal souls.
Aspects Of Photography
/
Photography provides us with an artistic tool for exploring our real world. It opens windows into realities and assists us with
capturing unique and rare moments that define our personal experiences and feelings. In a fraction of a second, this
technological marvel can capture the subtle nuances of a moment in time. With chemical or digital process we can convert
that moment into a photographic image to be shared with others.
/
You will find photographic compositions of many places, people, plants and objects in this portfolio. As a recognized form of
artistic expression we use it to examine and comment on environments and both natural and man-made items. The body of
our photographic work includes: cityscapes, landscapes, animals, plants, nature, portraits and objects.
/
Often we seek to understand and capture a unique aspect about our subject matter and convey that esthetic sensibility.
Utilizing elements of form, light, color and space we build compositions that open dialogue about visual perception. Works
can also engage our viewer with social or cultural considerations to challenge or support existing mindsets.
/
Our photographic images can also become the starting points for many representational paintings. Other projects combine
photographic images with paint or drawing processes and sculptural materials to create assemblages and new media
projects. Each instance of our usage is designed to communicate a particular point of view. The essence of these combined
works like collage and digital painting provide us with engaging artistic directions.
Usage Of Cross Symbolism In Our Art
/
The cross, currently recognized as a Christian symbol, dates back to the earliest periods of human development. It is found
scratched into ancient cave sites and rock formations. Studies on human behavior have found it’s significance second only to
the circle as a symbol both drawn and widely recognized by children across many different cultures with varying religions. Its
presence is part of the fabric of human communication and language.
/
Some see the cross as the most basic representation of human presence on earth. By holding your arms outstretched on
the horizontal plane of the earth, your body takes the basic form of a cross. Perhaps this stance was necessary as a
directional queue when an individual wanted to communicate migration or hunting directions to members of a tribal group.
This concept is infused in our geographic maps today and compasses still utilize hands to designate positions of north,
south, east and west.
/
Ideas about the symbolic nature of the cross can be found across many cultures and civilizations. Certain ancient
philosophies referred to the crosses division of space as symbolic of the four elemental forces: air, water, fire and earth.
These philosophers believed harmony was the balance of these basic elements. Other cultures see the cross as a symbol
of the intersection between the earthly physical world and the spiritual realm with the point of intersection being the place of
divine revelation. The study of mathematics defines a cross as the intersection of two planes in space. It is well noted that
scientific, spiritual and artistic viewpoints vary greatly.
/
Above all, today’s strong Christian association with the cross, makes it is a highly recognizable symbol representing
Christ's ultimate sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Our Christian affiliations align us with this stance and when we use the
cross in our artworks, our intent is formulated from Christian precepts. Reference to the religious aspects of the cross and
Jesus is undeniable in our artworks that contain the cross. The viewer will perceive this powerful symbol with all its primal,
logical, spiritual, philosophical and theological significance. It is undeniably the most impactful symbol in the Christian world
for opening a visual dialogue about God’s plan for humanity.
Stripes, defined as repeating parallel lines placed on a different ground, have been used by humans for their visual power
and impact since ancient times. Early instances are seen in body art, pottery design, jewelry works, textiles, drawings and
architecture. Civilizations have used stripes to embellish shields, banners and flags as a way of signifying and recognizing
their group, allies and foes. We continue this tradition with flag design for countries, regions, cultures and organizations.

In all their simplicity, stripes provide infinite variances and are an important tool for symbolism and brand identity. They
reveal ideas and emotions related to cultures, ethnicity and individual experiences. When presenting vertical stripes
feelings arise based on color relationships, thickness and placement. A viewer might feel elated or even trapped depending
on their own emotional connections and point of view. Horizontal or diagonal stripes can also initiate a range of reactions
depending on the viewer's culture and actual specific events that have shaped their life. The stripe element provides a valid
means for us to explore emotional reactions and idea interchange between the audience and the artist.
Another aspect seen in this category of abstract artworks concerns our interest in pure optical effects. By varying color, texture
and line thickness we explore optical nuances. This aspect of our exploration is aimed at cognitive thought processes that
involve the development of spatial awareness and perceptual understanding seen in variance among humans. Some people
are very tuned into the way line defines a spatial place, while others seem to struggle to connect with this aspect of our visual
sensibility. This body of abstract artworks are meant to elicit reactions that could be spiritual, intellectual, optical or emotional
depending on the viewer's acquired knowledge and human reference points.
