2021 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson and Sharon Eavenson On Collage Works on Paper

We began working with painted paper collage during the early 1980's and continue today. Our process consists of many
different artist mediums. These pieces provide the viewer with colorful expressions and unique shapes. Materials often vary
and may include: paper, acrylic paint, oil crayon, colored pencil, graphite pencil, canvas, ink, marker, glitter, sand, white glue,
fabric, silkscreen inks and gel mediums.

As artists, creating our own language of visual symbols and shapes helps us explore our personalized visions concerning the
universe. Colliding shapes, grounds and linear elements let us explore and present ideas about the interconnectedness of
the physical world. Expressive elements like boomerangs, stair steps, atom symbols and light rays define the space. The
surfaces bind together into cohesive compositions representing a particular state of the universe. Each composition also
defines our shared moments in time during the artistic process. Vitality is released and visual dynamics evolve as our
creative forces combine to produce artistic compositions reflective of the physical universe, cosmic relationships and the
scope of our shared human experiences.

Collage with painting allows spontaneous relationships between cut out shapes and distinct color grounds where we explore
color, shapes and environments. In these artworks unexpected combinations delve into our own emotional feelings. Utilizing
and identifying stair step shapes as human personas lets us build compositions based on relatable social experiences seen
during group behavior. Stairstep shapes act like actors on a staged set. They reflect human behaviors and activities with the
visual attributes of color, size, shape and position. Further comment on the basic nature of our signature shapes is achieved
with positioning to emphasize relationships between personalities and environments.

Expressionistic grounds act as a counterpose to the personality shapes. Together they set the stage for communicating ideas
about people and events on many levels. Emotionally charged atmospheres build strong visual dichotomies with shape
as congruent color schemes create harmony. We ask the viewer to consider evocative pattern combinations and unexpected
color palettes to create tension. The moods and tones established by these artworks engages the audience and prompts
them to examine their own visual experiences, feelings and human relationships that shape their reality.
