The Use of Art Mediums
/
A medium such as oil painting, printmaking or collage does not define an artist or their work. It is simply the tool that allows
for artistic expression. As artists we deliberately choose not to be bound by such restrictions. When viewing our work you will
find that we embrace many mediums and find worth in them all. We strive to let the concept and our emotional states
precipitate the final form.
/
Developing sensitivity for knowing when to utilize a specific medium to further a particular idea or feeling is both fulfilling
and exhilarating. It is a unique part of our process. At the onset of each new piece, emotion, ideas, concepts and thematic
concerns direct our choice of materials. You will see a broad range of working methodology from simple drawing on paper to
relief and sculpture. We also engage in new media and embrace the digital age working with computer software to
communicate our visual sensibilities.
/
On viewing our artistic compositions one will note that repeat thematic concerns emerge from both intellectual processes
and emotional states. We may be exploring the optical effects of color by painting with acrylic on canvas in the Horseshoe
pieces, as well as, through digital platforms in the Cross Stripe Series. Both mediums provide a valid platform for examining
the powerful effects of color optics.
/
We choose to find inspiration from a complete world that is overflowing with diversity in ideas and tools for communicating
these concepts. What the viewer and art collector will see in our work is a definable viewpoint that opens the channel for
discussion about this world. We hope to engage in discourse that challenges the preconceived ideas about art and open
avenues for new ways of creating that not only reflects ourselves, but also the culture and technological world that we inhabit
today.

Thoughts On Abstract Expressionism
/
Our artwork is a concrete manifestation of our own inner worlds. Through art we communicate about specific spiritual and
emotional viewpoints concerning the universe and our relationship to it. Using color, line, field, texture, form and shape we
reveal to the art audience a personal inner psyche and attitude toward this physical space we inhabit. Throughout the span of
our artistic careers, we both continually explore the parameters of abstract expressionism.

Comments On Color Theory
/
Our work reflects a keen instinctual awareness for using color as a tool that triggers human intellect and emotion. Color is
an essential aspect of our daily visual experience as humans and it continues to be a vital aspect in our artistic endeavors.
We delve deeply into the science of optical color effects, color relationships rooted in nature and color ideas stemming from
particular social or cultural references.
/
Color permeates our artwork and probes the viewer’s psyche for particular feelings and opens a visual dialogue to
address biases formulated by social and cultural influence. Exploring the wide array of human feelings prompted by color
and possessing the artistic skill to communicate our stance requires a keen understanding of color optics and color
psychology. We strive to evoke certain responses by building strong color statements relatable to social preferences and
mood associations that stem from cultural and natural conditions.
/
Another color concern explored in specific artworks is the pure optical effect that occurs as our eyes read color shifts that
are determined by experiences from spatial association. We play with expected norms like light colors coming forward and
dark colors receding to challenge the viewer to look closely. By adjusting hue, value and saturation we find interesting spatial
shifts. These are often strengthened by size, shape and placement to defy normal perceptions about space and objects
within space.
/
You will see this interplay of optics and feelings through much of our abstract work. Our collage compositions rely on color
characteristics to prompt emotional reaction, create spatial drama, establish mood and designate focal points that direct the
eye through each composition. Within these artworks are we are discovering and examining the nature of color as a strong
contender for building, establishing and revealing the concept of 2-dimensional space without reference to the
Renaissances ideas about perspective.

Usage Of Zig Zag Pattern In Our Work

Zig zag patterns are very primal and speak to us on many different levels. They refer to the rhythms found in sound waves,
human vocalization, heart beat rhythms and energy pulses like lightening. The peaks and valleys signify mountains, fire and
the highs and lows on stock market charts.

This pattern motif is rooted in ancient theologies, philosophies, math and science. It reflects the physical nature of our
universe and represents mathematical concepts like sin and cosine. The correlations with this pattern are vast and varied. Zig
zags have been used by many cultures for decoration in interior design, textile design and pottery.

We utilize zig zag pattern in our artwork because they emanate visual energy and deserve to be considered as a valid
direction for exploring the dynamics of expressive mark making, color theory and optical illusion. Our abstract expressions
reflect our inner vitality and understanding of abstract and concrete reality. These pieces provide insight into our inner most
human feelings about existence in a vast and amazing universe.
