2024 Notes From Artist Sharon Eavenson On Current Reality Queries Artworks
"Ephphatha", stages a cast of carefully selected personal objects displayed against nebulous colour grounds to interrelate
humanity's theological, scientific, technological, social and cultural possibilities. Specific elements prompt the audience to
consider spiritual and physical evolution leading us toward a higher consciousness. The visual progression from bottom to
top panel implies heavenly movement suggesting man's inclination to strive for a close relationship with God.
In the bottom panel a ceramic clown atop an anvil announces man as an actor on the stage of life. The anvil gives homage to
Greek religion and the god Hephaestus, who provided man with forging knowledge and tools. The applied masks remark on
man's dualistic nature and existence. Arrows refer to technological achievement and the multitudinous directions we take
while words relate to our artwork title and the biblical miracle of Jesus healing a deaf man.
The clown panel represents humanity's past, while the middle panel containing the toy space ship signifies our present path.
It implies our continued technological growth and the need for space exploration and colonization of artificial or natural worlds
to secure species survival. Both the space ship's numbers and name are deeply symbolic. The top panel with it's refined
spinning toy top represents man efforts to acheive another level in his pursuit of eternity, knowledge and truth.
