2019 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On The Lady Luck Collection

Card gaming is an ancient human leisure activity still popular today. Some people even make a successful career out of this
endeavor. Gaming engages humans on many levels and exercises our mental and instinctual acuity. Playing card games
involve thoughtful tactics and strategies. A keen understanding of mathematics, probability and pattern recognition plus
excellent memory skills are needed for success. In the game of poker understanding all these variables plus knowing one's
opponents playing patterns increases your odds for winning.

Beyond probability, where one determines the likelihood of an event, humans also engage in ideas about possibility and
chance. We somehow find it exciting knowing something might occur even if the likelihood is low. Most of us have often heard
sayings like, "Lady luck be with me." and "The luck of the Irish". These artworks spotlight the queens as lucky elements with
the remaining cards of a Royal Flush poker hand emerging from the background. Spatial elements like light rays and
symbols for molecular elements refer to random occurrence and undefined matter, space and time. These pieces open
dialogue concerning our inner desire for luck or chance in life; as well as, in a game of Five Card Draw.
