2019 Notes From The Artists Dennis Eavenson and Sharon Eavenson On The Treehouse Photo Collection

Pursing a visual direction that merges photographic processes with digital colorations allows us an avenue for commenting
on feelings and childhood play experiences. These photographs by Sharon Eavenson taken in 1976 capture a strong feeling
of time and place. The original darkroom manipulation and hand processing gave these works a surreal nature. In 2019 we
revisited them and created new works to establish a dialogue about color imparting mood, emotion and feelings. While
remembering specific moments in time and place, we created colorist statements that project the intense spontaneity and
emotional feelings felt during unstructured childhood playtime.

Unearthly color combinations not found in a naturalistic environments imbue these woodland vignettes with a mystical and
spiritual feeling. Color helps to create a realm where anything is possible and everything is probable. Our human reactions to
colors are deeply imbedded in our subconscious from actual experiences and learned associations. Each works takes on a
different feeling and asks the viewer to consider their own emotional responses to the Treehouse Series.
