2019 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On New York City Photos

Cities are creative extensions of humanity based on our inner need to find shelter and be communal with others. As artists,
we are drawn to exploring the diverse aspects of city life. Working within the framework of place, person, space, time and
spatial distinctiveness, we open a dialogue with our art audience to explore and discuss human reactions to this intense
world filled with exciting complexity.

There are many underlying themes in our city photos. Architectural elements are used to comment on the aesthetic nature
of our buildings and discuss shape, texture, scale and form. Some pieces reveal a low camera angle to amplify the power of
massive structures. Other works focus on visual complexity as seen in the densely packed spaces filled with buildings using
colorful signage, billboards and artificial lighting.

Weather and time of day are other visual themes we engage with for creating impactful moods, discussing the concept of
randomness and revealing the underlying forces of nature that still prevail over our manmade environments. These photos
offer the viewer insight into our feelings and thoughts about complexity, order and disorder. They express human diversity
and spontaneity within modern day cities.
