2019 Notes From The Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On The Cross Stripe Collection

Our compositional and thematic basis for these minimalist symbolic artworks is the Christian Cross. As one of man's
earliest symbols, the cross has been with humanity since the stone age. Humans chiseled into cave walls, most likely
defining directionals like north or south, and to address concepts about opposition such as summer and winter. Choosing the
equal proportions of the Greek Cross, we set the stage for relating our works to ancient markings, as well as; to the crucifixion
of our Lord Jesus and God's gift of salvation from our sins.

The three vertical bars, juxtaposed beside the cross symbolize the Holy Trinity. Seven color planes surrounding the Cross
signify the seven stages of the Cross during Jesus's crucifixion. Optical color relationships engage and prompt emotional and
intellectual responses about Christ's sacrifice and his divine obedience to God. By engaging the viewer with color optics we
encourage dialogue concerning God's miraculous gift of salvation and eternal life through Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb of God.
