2019 Notes From Artist Dennis Eavenson On The Lyrical Collection

During the seventies much of my work explored the abstract expressionistic movement of post World War II where painters
abandoned naturalistic references and moved into an era of abstract action painting and color field work. My interest in early
artistic giants like Kandinsky and Gorky was followed by interest in the New York school of painters like Pollock, Rothko and
De Kooning. This signature abstract style that emerged spontaneously explores the effects of color, shape and texture without
reference to specific objects, places or symbols. These works define my inner personal expressions or emotions.

Dynamic colors and painterly strokes combine with print process and collage to form my signature style during this period.
Color is a strong element in these pieces for prompting a range of emotions that feel playful, bold, anxious, moody, reflective
or jubilant. These color fields provide a dynamic stage for action. Cascading shapes float mysteriously across richly varied
grounds of vibrant hues, some often fluorescent. I use staining, print processes, dripping and gestural brushwork to exact a
particular spiritual and emotional essence for each composition.
