2021 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On Our Color Garden Artworks

These vibrant abstract paintings explore the emotional and spatial color relationships between unpredictable artificial color
and fluid organic shapes. Reference to the landscape is secured by building a tightly compressed composition of colored
shapes in loose horizontal rows. This layering aspect hints at man's ability to harness nature and can be compared to the
agricultural tradition of planting in rows for effective usage of land. These artworks elicit optical and emotional responses
from the viewer prompting a sensory experience similar to a stroll through a field of bright tulips.

Harmonies and rhythms of intense colors contrast with earthy browns and golden hues to establish a particular mood and
character for each piece. The heightened artificiality of dripped colors references the idea of a modern world filled with cheap
plastic products. This combined with a disregard for perspective amplifies a sense of nowness in these works. The plasticity
of the thick drippy acrylic paint further opens a dialogue for a modern aesthetic in this series of artworks.

Our 2021 Color Garden collaborations continue to explore Dennis's established artistic endeavors of the seventies. Recent
paintings address new shapes and and spatial shifts that occur in our non-representational compositions. Viewers will
experience our present color sensibilities with color palettes that continue reveal the emotional impact of color with fluid
organic shape. Current inspiration is derived from media devices that saturate our daily existence in a technological
world. We reference images from cinematography, video games, plastic toys and objects exploring the unusual color
combinations found in today's culture. Also nature, cityscapes and landscapes continue to be points of inspiration.
